in the Arctic bassin and Arctic seas on the base of the 2008 observational data
| 5 | | 15 октября 2009 г. The hydrographic condition assessments based on the expedition investigations for the Arctic basin and Arctic seas are presented for summer 2008. Positive surface temperature anomalies and surface layer freshening were observed on the significant area of the Amerasian sub-basin. In Eurasian sub-basin from the Fram Strait to the Laptev Sea along the continental slope the surface layer salinization was revealed.The surface water temperature was in the mean range for an exception of the Fram Strait region. In the Atlantic layer in 2008 the mean and maximal temperatures everywhere were higher than climate values. At the same time in comparison with the 2007 mean and maximal temperatures of the Atlantic waters were decreased at 0,25–0,5 °C. Total heat content and the Atlantic layer thickness were decreased. In the Amundsen Basin in 2008 the low temperature increase was observed in the Atlantic layer in comparison with the 2007. FEATURES OF THE ARCTIC BASIN SURFACE LAYER AT ANOMALOUS SUMMER OF 2007 The description of the Arctic Ocean surface layer state was done using oceanographic observation data for summer 2007. The observable vertical profiles of temperature and salinity in the ocean surface layer were divided into three types and their distribution map for summer 2007 was generated. The surface layer characteristic estimations, including mixed layer thickness, mixed layer mean temperature, mixed layer mean salinity and Brunt–Vaisala frequencies were calculated and spatial distribution maps were plotted. The comparative analysis with historical data shows that the surface layer characteristic of the Arctic Basin and the bordering Arctic Seas underwent considerable changes. albedo of nature and artificial snow-ice covers around of antarctic station Novolazarevskaya
| 28 | | 6 ноября 2009 г. The results of investigations carry-out by authors around Antarctic research station «Novolazarevskaya» (Shirmaher oasis) during 2004–2008 are analyze. New data about albedo of different types of surface around oasis (ice dome, snow patches, and artificial ice constructions) are present. The principal possibility to reduce speed of glacier surface melting during maximum of insolation on example of fly up – landing zone (FLZ) of ice aerodrome is showed. Cause-consequence relationships between albedo and structure of snow-glacier cover from one side and albedo and meteorological conditions from another are describe. А.В.Преображенская, канд. геогр. наук И.Н.Сократова ГНЦ РФ Арктический и антарктический научно-исследовательский институт, Санкт-Петербург, e-mail: aaricoop@aari.nw.ru Представлены новые данные о строении, изотопном и газовом составе конжеляционного льда подледникового озера Восток до глубины 3667 м. Изотопный состав льда из этих горизонтов отражает существенное влияние гидротермальных источников на изотопный и водный баланс озера, а также указывает на недостаточное перемешивание озерной воды, что имеет важное значение с точки зрения условий существования микробиоты. Газовый состав свидетельствует о том, что процесс формирования льда протекает почти без образования т.н. «водных карманов», что практически исключает вероятность обнаружения в этом льду озерных микроорганизмов. Данные о строении льда предполагают, что он был сформирован в условиях притока талой воды из северной части озера, что объясняет некоторые особенности изменчивости изотопного и газового составов льда. For allround year, February 2007 – February 2008, in wintering staff of the 52 RAE were continnued allround year monitoring hydrobiological works on investigations of season dynamiks of the main parametors of environments, quolited and quontited stracture of the pelagical ecosystem of the Ardley Bay (St. Bellinsgausen, King-George Island, the Southern Shetland Islands), and also have been carried out hydrobiological investigations of the ecosystem of the freshwater lake Kitezh, including experimental works on finding out level of exchange of the copepod Pseudoboeckella poppei. Definite season differences in structure of zooplancton, as well as differences of this from plancton structure of samples collected by 51 RAE have been discovered. | 64 | | 11 сентября 2009 г. 112 bottom Antarctic foraminiferal species were discovered around the Antarctic continent within the line of Antarctic convergence. Their distribution patterns have been studied at the shelf and the upper part of the bathial zone (slope). The quantitative and qualitative species maximum was established at the depth 189–300 m and 1500–2300 m, the influence of the depth, temperature and the other environmental factors influencing their distribution patterns have been traced. in Genesis of New Ice in the Seas of the Siberian Shelf
and Freshening of the Surface Waters of the Arctic Ocean

Estimates of daily ice growth in all the flaw polynyas of the seas of the Siberian shelf have been obtained on the basis of the methods developed by Zubov, Sabinin and Cavaliery. Calculations have been performed of the «effective» ice thicknesses for all the polynyas under consideration. Having integrated values of these «effective» ice thicknesses for the polynya areas, we have obtained estimates of ice volumes produced in the flaw polynyas of each of the seas of the Siberain shelf. Estimate of freshwater volumes accumulated in new ice, formed in the flaw polynyas, has been performed. Temporal series of the ice volumes, forming annually in the polynyas of the seas of the Siberian shelf, have been obtained. Comparison of estimates, obtained by the authors using different methods with earlier data, has been conducted. Estimates of the volumes of freshwater, accumulated in ice, are given, as well as comparison of river inflow in each of the seas under consideration. The volume of freshwater, accumulated in ice formed in all the polynyas of the Kara Sea for the period November–May, equals 9–64 % of the multi-annual total river inflow in this sea. The volume of freshwater, accumulated in ice formed in all the polynyas of the Laptev Sea for the period November–May, equals 6 – 107 % of the multi-annual total river inflow in this sea. The volume of freshwater, accumulated in ice formed in all the polynyas of the East Siberian Sea for the period November–May, equals 0,3 – 115 % of the multiannual total river inflow in this sea by the mean value of 33%. Values of frequency of occurrence of episodes of polynya existence have increased from 30–70 % to 80–100 %, and area of many polynyas increased in 2–5 times. In accordance with it, volumes of ice increased, formed in the flaw leads. This increase of ice volumes at the expense of increase of polynya areas significantly exceeds influence of increased air temperatures, observed in the period of warming in the Arctic. for monitoring and forecasting the state of the atmosphere and hydrosphere
| 88 | | 4 июня 2009 г. An adaptable complex for monitoring and forecasting of the state of the atmosphere and hydrosphere (AKMON) developed at the AARI is considered. It allows us to optimize the technological process of specialized hydrometeorological support (HMS) for shipping in the Arctic and ice-covered seas. The complex includes interrelated modules providing for collection, automated processing and archiving of initial hydrometeorological information, preparation of the information products using subject AWPs. Management of the technological processes and dissemination of the information products to the user’s work place (conning bridge, drilling platform, headquarters of marine operations, dispatcher’s control panel, etc.) is by using a special software package «data handling system» in the most convenient form for user. Based on the created by the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute and Tiksi Branch of Yakutian Administration of Roshydromet electronic archive of standard meteorological observations, executed on the polar station Tiksi since August 1932 until December 2007, the peculiarities of seasonal variability of air temperature, atmospheric surface pressure, absolute humidity, tenth of total cloudiness and wind velocity had been analyzed. The model of periodically correlated stochastic processes had been used for analysis. The main attention is placed to comparison of regular seasonal variability and interannual variations of its characteristics in the parametrical form. | 114 | | 15 июня 2009 г. This article contains an analysis of the distribution of multiyear (MY) ice in the Barents Sea for the 1955–2007 period. The archived comprehensive ice charts of AARI, drawn on the basis of the results of ice air reconnaissance and satellite data, have been analyzed. Cases of intrusion of multiyear ice southward of 78N have been examined, coordinates of boundaries of its distribution zones measured, and information on MY ice partial concentration and floe sizes obtained. These datasets were used to reflect MY ice spatial and temporal variations of concentration and floe sizes, and to get probability assessments of its distribution in the Barents Sea as well. | | M.V.Gavrilo. Breeding distribution of ivory gull in the Russian Arctic: difficulty when studying range of a rare and sporadically breedin high arctic species

Based of critical analysis of published and archival data, specially designed and distributed enquiry, and field data breeding distribution of the ivory gull in the Russian Arctic was critically revised. New breeding colonies were revealed while some previous breeding areas were not proved. Totally, 51 breeding sites including historical records were proved. Subjective sources and biological peculiarities of the ivory gull breeding biology which account for the unreliable information on the nesting distribution published elsewhere are pointed out. Ivory gull researches in the Russian Arctic was divided into three periods. Mapping proved limited breeding range and sporadic nesting distribution of the ivory gull within its range in Russia.
